Amanjena lies outside Marrakech, about a 20-minute drive from the airport, in a grove of palm and olive trees. The architect Ed Tuttle drew on Moorish forms: vaulted ceilings, arched colonnades, fountains and a central basin that the free-standing pavilions and villas are arranged around. Many units have their own pool, and one of the two shared pools is for adults only. It suits couples and families who want seclusion and space outside the city, and who will drive into the medina rather than walk.
Editorial assessmentAmanjena is Sikovia's out-of-town retreat in Marrakech. It is further from the medina than Mandarin Oriental and far calmer than La Mamounia, and its pavilions are more pared back than the crafted riads of Royal Mansour. Choose it for privacy and quiet over city access.
