Hotel Santa Caterina has belonged to the Gambardella family since Dr Giuseppe Gambardella founded it in 1904, and the family still runs it. It stands on the cliff above the sea at Amalfi, and MICHELIN calls the interiors charmingly old-fashioned: this is a traditional, quiet family hotel rather than a design statement.
